Exceptional in Every Way
When scaling one of the Seven Summits, your safety hinges on the expertise of your Kilimanjaro guide. When you trek with Thomson, every guide holds the highest certification on the mountain: Wilderness First Responder (WFR) accreditation through the internationally recognized Sentinel Outdoor Institute. This elite training, combined with 100–200+ summits each, fluency in English and Swahili, and proficiency in using advanced emergency equipment, ensures you’re trekking with the mountain’s most capable team.
Exceptional Guides
All Thomson guides are certified Wilderness First Responders and trained to use all equipment. With their medical training, they can distinguish normal side effects of altitude from potentially dangerous symptoms, and they carry three types of mobile communication on them at all times, ensuring constant connectivity.
The WFR certification is the highest standard of guide training on Kilimanjaro and an internationally recognized gold standard in outdoor emergency medical care. It is awarded by the Sentinel Outdoor Institute following an 80-hour course and passage of written and practical exams. Guides must renew their certification every two years to maintain their expertise.
