When you’re climbing one of the tallest mountains in the world, the outfitter you choose must prioritize safety above all else. You can trust Thomson’s Kilimanjaro team to get you safely up the mountain. We have exceptionally qualified guides, rigorous safety protocols, and more medical equipment than any other Kilimanjaro outfitter.

 

THE MOST QUALIFIED GUIDES

  • Top certifications. Thomson guides are certified Wilderness First Responders – the highest level of certification on Kilimanjaro – and trained to use all equipment.
  • Medically trained. Thomson guides can distinguish normal side effects of altitude from potentially dangerous symptoms.
  • Always connected. Thomson guides carry three types of mobile communication on Kilimanjaro at all times.

 

EVACUATION PLAN
Should you need to descend for any reason, Thomson will get you down the mountain safely:


STEP 1: ASSESS

Guides will determine the safest and fastest descent route.

STEP 2: NOTIFY

A call to base camp ensures appropriate medical attention (if needed) and accommodations will be ready.

STEP 3: DEPLOY

If necessary, guides will use Thomson’s extensive medical equipment to stabilize the guest.

STEP 4: DESCEND

A guide and a team of trained staff accompany the guest down the mountain.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT
No outfitter carries more medical and safety equipment than Thomson. Rigid litter stretchers and satellite phones are scarce on the mountain. We carry both on every single trek. We’re the group other outfitters turn to in an emergency.
