GETTING TO KNOW THEM WAS FUN IN ITSELF

I had a lot of fun with several of the porters on our climb. Getting to know as many of them as I could from the beginning was fun in itself. I know I would not have made it were it not for at least two or three of the gentlemen who helped me get ready in the morning, walk alongside me when I felt beat, and at one point when we had a minor rock to climb over. I was proud of the other folks in my group for all being respectful, interactive, grateful and quite generous to the porters who helped us tremendously.

The highlights for me were practicing my Kiswahili with the guys especially at the end when I gave a small thank you talk in my very rusty, kitchen Swahili. Also, singing the Tanzanian anthem at the top of the mountain was amazing – Mungu Ibaraki Tanzania!! (God Bless Tanzania)
