Days 1-2: Ngorongoro Crater

Head out from Arusha to the Ngorongoro Highlands, a lush landscape along the Great Rift Valley. You’ll arrive at Gibb’s Farm, an 80-year-old working coffee estate, in time for a delicious farm-fresh lunch. The next morning, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a 10-mile wide volcanic caldera that acts as a totally self-contained eco-system. It’s one of the only places on earth where you can still spot all of the “Big 5″ (lion, leopard, African buffalo, rhinoceros, and elephant) in just one day. Indulge in Maasai-inspired spa treatments or other optional activities at Gibb’s Farm (additional fees apply). Overnights: Gibb’s Farm

Days 3-4 Serengeti National Park

On your drive west, you’ll stop at Olduvai Gorge, the site where the Leakeys discovered “Lucy,” one of our most ancient hominid ancestors. From there, continue to the Serengeti, a land of rolling plains teeming with wildlife. See lion, cheetah, warthog, rhino, antelope, hippo, giraffe, zebra and the infamous migration of the wildebeest. Evenings in the bush will be a treat in your exclusive Nyumba camps, moved seasonally for optimal wildlife viewing. Add an optional hot air balloon ride  to experience stunning birds-eye views of the Serengeti. (Advanced reservations and additional fees apply). Overnights: Serengeti Nyumba

Days 5-6 Serengeti National Park to Arusha / Return to North America

A scenic flight will take you back to Arusha, where you’ll enjoy a farewell lunch and visit some local shops for some last souvenirs. Unwind in a day room before your flight home. Day Room: Mount Meru Hotel

 Gibb’s Farm

Fresh food, fresh air, and fresh perspectives abound at award-winning eco-lodge, Gibb’s Farm. At the end of full days of exploration, relax in your eco-friendly cottage, set amidst the farm’s lush gardens. You can even ask the attentive staff to provide insight into local culture and history.

Serengeti Nyumbas

These semi-permanent, seasonal camps are strategically plotted across the Serengeti according to wildlife migration patterns. Each location offers comfort in the heart of the wilderness. With spacious tents, cozy bedding, and ensuite bathrooms, you’ll have to take a look outside to be reminded that you’re deep in the bush. And no need to worry—with eco-friendly features like solar lighting, your stay is not harming the landscape.
